IDR is seeking a Senior Java Developer to join one of our top clients for a remote opportunity. In this role, you’ll help assess and modernize a suite of legacy, store-facing applications by uncovering how they work today, documenting key dependencies, and shaping a path forward into a more centralized platform. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to reduce technical debt, improve scalability, and support reliable day-to-day store operations.
Position Overview for the Senior Java Developer:
- Evaluate and analyze legacy Java-based applications with limited documentation to understand functionality, workflows, and integrations
- Design, build, and enhance backend services using Java and modern API patterns to support enterprise-scale operations
- Partner with technical and business stakeholders to identify dependencies, risks, and modernization options (retain, rebuild, consolidate, retire)
- Improve application reliability through troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and sustainable code improvements
- Contribute to an implementation and migration roadmap that minimizes disruption to store operations
Requirements for the Senior Java Developer:
- 10+ years of professional software development experience, with strong Java expertise
- Hands-on experience building enterprise applications using Spring Boot and RESTful APIs
- Strong SQL skills, including writing performant queries and working with relational databases
- Experience assessing or reverse-engineering existing applications and producing clear technical documentation
- Ability to collaborate effectively across teams through design, development, testing, and release cycles
