IDR is seeking a Controller to join one of our top clients for an opportunity in Birmingham, AL. This is a hands-on finance leadership role within a stable, long-established organization in a project-based services industry. You’ll lead accounting operations, strengthen controls and reporting, and partner with business leaders to improve job costing, margin visibility, and operational performance.

Position Overview for the Controller:

• Lead the overall finance and accounting function, including financial strategy, forecasting, cash flow, and executive-level reporting
• Oversee core accounting operations (GL, AP, AR) and ensure accurate, timely month-end close and financial statements
• Strengthen internal controls and audit readiness, ensuring compliance with GAAP and applicable regulations
• Partner with operational leaders to improve job costing, billing accuracy, WIP/margin visibility, and KPI reporting across business lines
• Drive process improvement and modernization of finance systems and workflows, with a focus on automation and better visibility

Requirements for the Controller:

• CPA required (active/in good standing)
• 10+ years of progressive finance/accounting leadership experience, including oversight of GL/AP/AR and financial reporting
• Proven experience leading audits and strengthening internal controls in a regulated or compliance-driven environment
• Background in project-based, construction, service, or similar operational environments with exposure to job costing and margin/WIP concepts
• Experience improving financial processes and/or optimizing ERP/accounting systems to increase accuracy, speed, and visibility
