IDR is seeking a Software Engineer – Genomics. The role is a remote contract position supporting a Genomics Pipeline Agile SCRUM development team. The developer will implement features and functions in new or existing genomics pipelines, working hands-on with bioinformatics tools and workflows. The role combines technical execution with collaboration within a team environment.
Position Overview for the Software Engineer – Genomics:
- Implement features and functions in genomics pipelines within an Agile SCRUM environment.
- Work on developing and maintaining bioinformatics workflows using languages such as Python, Bash, and Nextflow.
- Understand and describe genetics testing and analysis workflows from DNA extraction to patient reporting.
- Collaborate with team members on the design, development, and testing of genomics pipeline features.
- Support the integration of genomics pipelines with bioinformatics tools like GATK and Claude/Codex AI.
Requirements for the Software Engineer – Genomics:
- 5 years of experience as a software developer with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or 7 years with an Associate’s degree.
- Understanding of BAM, Fastq, VCF, and other genetics files and their contents.
- Skilled in BASH, Python, Nextflow, BioInformatics, GATK, Genomics Pipelines, Claude/Codex AI.
- Prior bioinformatics experience or education is a plus.
- Capable of describing a genetics testing and analysis workflow from DNA extraction through tertiary analysis and patient results reporting.
