Essential Qualifications for the Collections Specialist:
- Proficiency in both verbal and written communication, along with strong customer service and negotiation abilities.
- Capacity to work independently and effectively manage time.
- Accurately documenting and recording customer or client information.
- Understanding of federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations related to collections.
- Experience with computer applications, including Microsoft Word and other relevant collections software, is a plus.
Daily Responsibilities for the Collections Specialist:
- Process payments and record the amounts received to customer accounts.
- Identify and track overdue accounts.
- Communicate with customers via phone or in person to understand the reasons for overdue payments and to review the terms of sales, services, or credit agreements.
- Encourage customers to pay outstanding balances on credit accounts, address damage claims or non-payable checks, or return merchandise.
- Set up debt repayment plans or establish repayment schedules according to customers' financial circumstances.
