 Observability Architect 

  • Ongoing contract (Client maintains right to hire after 3 months though rarely exercises this right)
  • Location: Remote or Hartford, CT
  • C2C Pay Rate: $75/HR

Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive observability solutions across infrastructure, applications, APIs, and databases.

  • Leverage Dynatrace (OneAgent, ActiveGate, Davis AI) for automated anomaly detection, root cause analysis, and performance insights.

  • Build custom dashboards, alerting policies, and synthetic monitoring in Dynatrace.

  • Utilize Splunk ITSI for KPI monitoring, predictive analytics, and advanced SPL queries to support operational visibility.

  • Monitor and optimize AWS workloads (EC2, ECS, EKS, RDS) using Dynatrace and native AWS integrations.

  • Develop Observability-as-Code (OaC) using Terraform and reusable modules to automate dashboard creation and alert configurations.

  • Implement and support observability for API Gateways (IBM APIC, MuleSoft, AWS API Gateway, Kong, NGINX) with key metrics like latency, error rate, and throughput.

  • Instrument and monitor databases (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, AWS RDS) to track query performance and resource utilization.

  • Drive distributed tracing implementation across API calls, services, and database layers.

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years in IT operations, SRE, or observability engineering roles

  • Hands-on experience with Dynatrace (OneAgent, ActiveGate, Davis AI)

  • Proficiency with Splunk, including ITSI, dashboards, glass tables, and predictive analytics

  • Strong AWS monitoring experience (EC2, ECS, EKS, RDS)

  • Deep knowledge of Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles

  • Experience implementing Observability-as-Code (OaC) for dashboards, alerting, and config management

  • Familiarity with monitoring API Gateways and managing distributed tracing across services

  • Skilled in building observability pipelines for logs, metrics, and traces

  • Strong understanding of monitoring architecture, SLOs, and best practices for operational excellence
