Position Overview:
The Benefits Counseling & Referral Specialist will provide vital information, referrals, and assistance to callers and their caregivers seeking social and health services. The position focuses on assessing callers’ needs, recommending appropriate resources, and connecting them with services that best meet their requirements. Additional duties include following up on referrals, making community presentations, collaborating with community organizations, and supporting outreach programs. This individual will act as a key resource for both the public and other agencies.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments of callers’ needs and provide tailored referrals to appropriate services, focusing on federal, state, and local benefits.
  • Offer comprehensive information about social and health services, assisting callers in making informed decisions.
  • Connect individuals to necessary services when available and identify alternatives when resources are limited.
  • Follow up with clients to ensure services were provided and gather feedback.
  • Participate in community presentations and collaborate with volunteers to implement outreach activities.
  • Maintain and update client data in reporting systems and ensure the accuracy of resource information.
  • Participates in other special projects as assigned. Project areas may include: Financial Fitness for Older Adults, Medicare Savings Program, Low-Income Subsidy, SNAP, and Medicaid Benefits (If candidate hold necessary certification).

Must-Have Skills:

  • 3+ years of experience in customer service role for Medicare Enrollment.
  • Familiarity with various federal, state and local benefits and other programs.
  • Proficient with MS Word and Excel.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Ability to work independently and remotely, while attending in-office days for training.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
