Position Overview for the Patient Access Representative:  

  • Patient Interaction: Serve as the face-to-face point of contact for patients, greeting and verifying demographic, clinical, financial, and insurance information, ensuring a positive patient experience.
  • Registration and Financial Clearance: Complete the end-to-end registration process for service delivery, including authenticating, registering, collecting signatures, and copying registration documents, as well as verifying insurance eligibility and benefits.
  • Payment Collection: Calculate and inform patients/guarantors of estimated liabilities, actively collect payments including co-payments, deductibles, and deposits at the time of service, and process payments for prior services.
  • Continuous Improvement and Support: Contribute to the continuous improvement of patient access processes, provide support for financial counseling referrals, and perform additional duties such as cashiering and bed management.
Required Skills for the Patient Access Representative:  
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent education/experience.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year of recent relevant experience in patient access, financial counseling, or related functions in acute or non-acute settings.
  • Skills and Knowledge: General knowledge of patient access, insurance, medical terminology, EMTALA, and consent laws. Proficiency in multiple computer systems, time management, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. Strong verbal and written communication and active listening skills.
  • Customer Service and Compliance: Ability to meet or exceed customer service, productivity, and quality standards, maintain confidentiality, and ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, as well as Sutter Health policies and procedures.
