IDR is seeking a Technical Documentation Engineer to join one of our top clients for an opportunity in Austin, TX. This role focuses on supporting the development and commercialization of surgical robotic systems through the creation of comprehensive technical documentation. The company operates in the high-tech medical device and robotics industry, emphasizing precision, innovation, and regulatory compliance.
Position Overview for the Technical Documentation Engineer:
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, service manuals, and work instructions for complex surgical robotic systems.
- Translate engineering designs, requirements, and Design History File (DHF) documentation into clear, accurate service procedures.
- Create new documentation from scratch to support product commercialization and field service readiness.
- Document spare parts, required tools, service kits, and maintenance procedures for new robotic platforms.
- Work directly with surgical robotic systems to validate service procedures and ensure documentation accurately reflects system operation.
- Partner closely with R&D, Systems Engineering, Manufacturing, and Field Service teams to support product launches.
- Support Design History File (DHF) documentation and ensure service documentation aligns with FDA and quality system requirements.
- Assist in developing preventative maintenance procedures, troubleshooting guides, and repair documentation.
- Generate technical reports and documentation supporting verification, validation, and service readiness activities.
- Contribute to commercial launch efforts by ensuring field service organizations have the documentation and resources necessary to successfully support new products.
Requirements for the Technical Documentation Engineer:
- Must have technical writing / technical documentation experience supporting complex electromechanical or robotic systems.
- Experience creating work instructions from scratch for highly regulated industries such as medical devices or aerospace.
- Proven background supporting Design History Files (DHF) compliance and documentation.
- Experience partnering directly with engineering teams to translate designs into service documentation.
- Knowledge of regulations such as FDA design controls and ISO 13485.
