IDR is seeking a Chief Financial Officer to join one of our top clients for an opportunity in Birmingham, AL. This is a hands-on finance leadership role within a stable, long-established organization in a project-based services industry. You’ll lead accounting operations, strengthen controls and reporting, and partner with business leaders to improve job costing, margin visibility, and operational performance.
Position Overview for the Chief Financial Officer:
- Lead the overall finance and accounting function, including financial strategy, forecasting, cash flow, and executive-level reporting
- Oversee core accounting operations (GL, AP, AR) and ensure accurate, timely month-end close and financial statements
- Strengthen internal controls and audit readiness, ensuring compliance with GAAP and applicable regulations
- Partner with operational leaders to improve job costing, billing accuracy, WIP/margin visibility, and KPI reporting across business lines
- Drive process improvement and modernization of finance systems and workflows, with a focus on automation and better visibility
Requirements for the Chief Financial Officer:
- CPA required (active/in good standing)
- 10+ years of progressive finance/accounting leadership experience, including oversight of GL/AP/AR and financial reporting
- Proven experience leading audits and strengthening internal controls in a regulated or compliance-driven environment
- Background in project-based, construction, service, or similar operational environments with exposure to job costing and margin/WIP concepts
- Experience improving financial processes and/or optimizing ERP/accounting systems to increase accuracy, speed, and visibility
